John T. Schwieters is a Principal of Perseus TDC, LLC and a Senior Advisor. He was formerly a member of the Executive Committee to Perseus, LLC, a merchant bank. Prior to joining Perseus, Mr. Schwieters was the Managing Partner of Arthur Andersen’s Mid-Atlantic region and was a member of Arthur Andersen’s U.S. leadership team. Mr. Schwieters became a partner at Arthur Andersen in 1974 and was head of its tax practice from 1974 to 1989. In 1989 he became Office Managing Partner. Mr. Schwieters served as Advisory Partner on many of Arthur Andersen’s Washington area clients, including Snyder Communications, Inc., Clark Enterprises, Riggs National Corporation, Sallie Mae, American Association of Retired Persons, National Automobile Dealers Association, and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Schwieters is a member of the Board of Directors of Danaher Corporation and he serves on the Board of WETA. Mr. Schwieters served on the Board of Directors of Smithfield Foods, Inc. until it was acquired by the Chinese group Shuanghui in September 2013 and he was a Chairman of Raleigh Cycle Limited until it was acquired by Accell in April 2012. He served as a member of the Manor Care Corporation Board of Directors until it was acquired by the Carlyle Group in 2007. He has also served as: Board member of Choice Hotels International, Maryland Theatre for the Performing Arts and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Chairman of Perseus Books, LLC; President, Washington Ballet; Chairman, Greater Washington Board of Trade; Vice Chairman, Greater Washington Research Center; Treasurer, the United Way of the National Capital Area; Executive Committee, Federal City Council; Chairman of Development Campaign, Samaritan Inns; Board of Trustees, Trinity College; Treasurer, Community Foundation of the National Capital Region; Treasurer, 2012 Coalition; Advisory Board, The George Washington University Law School; and President, Greater Washington Society of CPAs.
Mr. Schwieters holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University and an L.L.B. from The George Washington University.
